ChatGPT refunds and cancellation: what you can actually recover

"Can I get my money back?" is the hardest question in subscriptions, because the answer depends on who charged you: OpenAI, Apple, Google — or a top-up service like this store. This guide covers all four cases in order, starting with the move that prevents most refund problems: cancelling the renewal before it happens.

The rule that decides most refund cases

A subscription payment is generally a payment for access to a period, not a product you can return. Once the period has started and you have used it, most providers — from streaming services to AI tools — treat the charge as earned. That is why cancelling in time beats arguing for a refund afterwards in nearly every case.

The two exceptions that matter: where local consumer law gives you a withdrawal right (for example the EU/EEA 14-day rule for some digital purchases), and cases where the payment failed to deliver what you paid for — like a top-up that never arrived.

Case 1: Cancelling a ChatGPT subscription billed by OpenAI

  1. Open ChatGPT and go to Settings → Subscription.
  2. Choose the cancel option for your plan (Plus, Pro or Go).
  3. Confirm. Your paid access continues until the end of the current period; the next renewal is stopped.
  4. Screenshot the confirmation — it is your proof of timely cancellation if anything is disputed later.

Cancelling does not delete your account or your chats — you simply return to the free tier when the period ends, and you can resubscribe any time.

Case 2: Requesting a refund from OpenAI

If you want money back for a charge that already happened, the route is OpenAI's help center: submit a billing request and state clearly what happened (accidental renewal, duplicate charge, unused period). Requests are reviewed case by case; outside situations where local law requires a refund, subscription payments are generally non-refundable — so frame the request around the concrete problem, not just "I changed my mind".

Do the cancellation first, refund request second. That order stops the next charge immediately while the request is being reviewed.

Case 3: Paid through the App Store or Google Play

In-app subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, and only they can refund them. OpenAI support cannot touch those payments.

  • Apple: use reportaproblem.apple.com, select the ChatGPT charge and request a refund, then cancel the subscription in Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions.
  • Google Play: use the Play Store's "Report a problem" flow on the order, then cancel under Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.

Refund decisions there follow each store's policy, and cancellation is a separate step from the refund request — do both.

Case 4: Top-ups bought on this store

Our policy is short and we keep it:

  • Failed or undelivered top-ups: refunded in full, same day. No arguments, no forms.
  • Duplicate charges: refunded in full, same day. Send both order numbers to support.
  • Completed deliveries: generally not refundable — the top-up is a digital product applied instantly to your account, and it cannot be returned. This is why we ask you to double-check the plan and your account before ordering.

Every order has a number, and its status is always visible on the order lookup page. For anything else, email support@chatgptplan.lol with your order number.

How to avoid needing a refund next month

  • Top-ups here do not auto-renew. A direct top-up is a single charge — you decide each period whether to continue.
  • Cancel official subscriptions the day you decide to stop, not after the renewal email.
  • Check Settings → Subscription before ordering if you already have a plan running, so two periods never overlap.
  • Keep your order number — it is the key that unlocks same-day help for any delivery problem.

If a payment itself was refused rather than refunded, the cause is usually on the bank side — see the payment troubleshooting guide for the fix per decline type.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund from OpenAI for ChatGPT Plus?

OpenAI reviews refund requests case by case through help.openai.com. Outside situations where local consumer law requires a refund (for example EU/EEA withdrawal rights), subscription payments are generally non-refundable, so it is usually smarter to cancel the renewal before the next charge.

How do I cancel my ChatGPT Plus renewal?

In ChatGPT, open Settings, go to Subscription and choose the cancel option for your plan. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period, and you will not be charged again.

What does this store refund?

Failed or undelivered top-ups are refunded in full on the same day. Top-ups are digital products delivered instantly, so a completed delivery is generally not refundable — that is why we ask you to check the product and your account before ordering.

I paid through the App Store or Google Play — who refunds me?

In-app purchases are billed by Apple or Google, so only they can cancel or refund them. Use reportaproblem.apple.com for Apple, or the Google Play refund flow, then cancel the renewal in the same store to stop the next charge.

I was charged twice. What should I do?

Email support@chatgptplan.lol with both order numbers. Duplicate charges and delivery failures are refunded in full on the same day.

Ready to top up ChatGPT?

Pay in USD by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay and your own account is topped up in minutes.
